Fragments of Portrait (2013)

Rendering one minute of a video named “Francis Bacon: Fragments Of A Portrait”, a TV documentary interview of Bacon by David Sylvester, through my ‘Spirit Exposure’ method. I rendered the 8:30-8:59 of the footage.

This documentary was broadcasted on BBC1, 18 September 1966.

While Bacon talked about the recurring themes in his work: the twisted body, injury and his life in the documentary, I render his talk by Spirit Exposure method. Bacon’s young artistic soul seems to reveal in this image? This experiment tend to juxtapose the artist’s description of body, motion and consciousless painting with the gradually rendered skull-like image. While the artist is gone, what is flesh? What is spirit?
